Gator Bowl already has a loser
By kaspeckman | January 1, 2012
It doesn’t matter if the Florida Gators or Ohio State Buckeyes win the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl because the real loser in this scenario is the Gator Bowl Association itself.
1. They are already a laughing stock (by local Twitter experts, anyway) for choosing “TSGB” as their Twitter hashtag. GBA was already using #gatorbowl, so why confuse everyone with an acronym that no one recognizes? Plus, folks might confuse it with other TSGBs like Cal Maritime’s student-operated Training Ship Golden Bear or Transport Statistic Great Britain, an annual report on British transportation-related information, or The Silent Gunner Blog about the Arsenal Football Club in North London or model TSGB-200, a three-axis pinion ground blind sold by The Big Red Neck Trading Post. (OK, maybe not.)
2. Last month, bleacherreport.com named the bowl game one of the 5 Funniest College Football Game Names—and not “funny” in a good way.
3. Granted, the GBA can’t control the name of the company that winds up being their major sponsor, but the least they can do is spell it correctly on the invitations to the Chairman’s Brunch. Let me guess what they’ll be serving: fluffv pancakes, sausage gravv and Bloodv Marv’s.
