The Specktacle FAQs

By | June 22, 2012

I am overwhelmed with the number of people who have expressed an interest in coming to my humble event, The Specktacle, a star-studded benefit for Special Olympics, especially, those of you who are smart enough to have already purchased your tickets. (Translation: Do not call me, non-ticket-buying-in-advance people, from the red carpet—and yes, there will be one—crying that it’s sold out. You shouldn’t have waited ’til the last minute).

However, there seems to be some confusion as to the details of the event. That said, I have compiled this list of frequently asked questions—and answers—that should clear things up for most of you. If you have a question that is not addressed here, Tweet it to me (@TheSpecktator).

1. When is the event?
Tomorrow. Saturday, June 23, 2012. 6–10 PM. Just like it says on the ad, the flyers, posters, tickets and my incessant Twitter and Facebook posts. I repeat: it is not tonight.

2. Where is the event?
927 Events. The address is 927 W. Forsyth St. The corner of Forysth and Lee. Not far from the Prime Osborn Convention Center. In Downtown Jacksonville. Florida. United States of America. Planet Earth (bah-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-bah). The event is not at European Street Cafe (however, there will be separate FUNdraiser there next month; deets to follow). E. Street is, however, the presenting sponsor of this event. Again, if you cannot remember the location, please refer to any ad, flyer, poster, ticket, etc.

3. Where do I park?
In the lot directly across the street from the venue, preferably in between the white lines.

4. What is the dress code?
There isn’t one. As long as you are not wearing something obscene or offensive, I really don’t care what you have on: a tuxedo, clown costume, jorts, evening gown, bear suit, pajamas, pajama jeans, full-body cast. Just make sure there’s a pocket for your wallet.

5. Are you nervous about dancing?
If you mean tomorrow night, no. Mainly because I’m not dancing tomorrow night. The Specktacle is a FUNdraiser for Special Olympics held in conjunction with Jacksonville’s Dancing With the Stars. DWTS is September 8. I will be dancing that night and probably will be a little jittery (thanks for asking).

6. So what is The Specktacle then?
The Specktacle is part-piano lounge, part-comedy club, part-live auction (did I mention Lew Turner of First Coast News is the emcee?), part-mixer, part-celebrity stalking opportunity, part-surprise party and most important, a fundraiser. OK, the beer, wine and pork sliders are pretty important too.

7. Where can I buy tickets?
Online: Eventbrite (until 5 p.m.)
In real life: European Street in Riverside (until 5 p.m.)
At the door: 927 Events (if available)

8. Where can I find out more about Specktacular events in the future?
jaxdwks.com

See you there!
